We know a thing or two about families in business but the McClures have to be one of our favourites. In 2006 brothers Joe and Bob dusted off their great grandmother Lala's recipe and started McClure's Pickles. You may recognise them from the Paul Henry Show when they visited New Zealand not long ago. Their pickled goods come in two signature flavours: garlic and dill and spicy.
Of the garlic and dill they say....
'Tangy and full of flavour, these garlic dill pickles are crunchy, flavourful and bright. Use the leftover brine to marinate tofu, chicken, in potato salad or re-pickling more vegetables.'
And the spicy...
'Packing a punch these spicy spears bring the heat and make a signature sandwich! This is the original spicy recipe passed down from great grandma Lala. We don't mess around with the heat so get ready for a flavourful and spicy snack.'
They now manufacture out of their hometown Detriot, Michigan and have a number of their friends and family on the pickle payroll. Our favourite McClure? It has to be Jennifer (aka Mom). She's been making pickles since the age of 5, is an all round warehouse bad ass and has kept her famous pickle recipe a secret from her husband of 37 years.
They're seriously one cool family who live and breathe pickles.
